God is inviting us into a deeper place of intimacy through worship.

As I sought the Lord concerning this time of fasting and dedication, I felt His prompting to make this year’s fast seven days rather than our normal twenty-one. Two words kept rising to the surface: intimacy and worship.

These words are familiar, but if we are not careful, we can miss how sacred they truly are.

This 7-day fast is an invitation to reposition our hearts toward Jesus.

When we lay aside food, social media, entertainment, or anything that normally fills our attention, we create sacred space. That space is not meant to remain empty. It is meant to be filled with the presence of God.

Just like Mary in John 12, who poured out her oil at the feet of Jesus and held nothing back, her worship filled the entire house with fragrance. That is the invitation of this fast. To create space that God Himself fills with His presence, His voice, His nearness, and His fragrance.

Note: Biblical fasting is the complete elimination of food. A dedication, however, is the intentional setting aside of something such as social media, sweets, or other daily distractions for a specific purpose.
